AAMU Spring Football Update
HUNTSVILLE -- On the day before we're supposed to "spring forward" one hour, the Bulldogs football team held its first scrimmage of the spring. And, according to Head Coach James Spady, the team is also moving forward. "We're progressing nicely," he said after the roughly 75-minute scrimmage. There were several local high school coaches at the workout, too, as invited guests of the Bulldogs. The defense, under new coordinator Travis Pearson, is "coming along," Spady said. The players "love the schemes" and are adjusting to them. A surprise has been the play of new running back Rashad Anderson. The Hazel Green product has played punter, defensive back and return specialist while at A&M. Now, he can add running back to his resume. Anderson was the top rusher Saturday and his runs were through holes up the middle and he would use his speed to dart into the secondary. "Rashad played well and Tutty (quarterback De'Angelo Ballard) did, also," Spady said. Ballard had a pair of touchdown passes on the day. The team returns to practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday anf Friday and will scrimmage next Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in its final workout before Spring Break. All practices are open to the public.
