Reasonable Resolution For Ferguson

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Reforms are expected to begin quickly in Ferguson now that a federal judge has approved a settlement between the U.S. Department of Justice and the Missouri city where 18-year-old Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer.

Federal Judge Catherine Perry issued her ruling approving the agreement Tuesday after a lengthy public hearing in St. Louis. Thirty-two people spoke at the hearing, and 23 others submitted written comments. Perry said the settlement is a "reasonable resolution" that avoids an extensive court battle.

Some reforms are expected to be in place within 30 days, such as eliminating some unnecessary laws. Ferguson has 60 days to develop and implement a plan for the use of police body and car cameras. A monitor team is expected to be hired within 90 days.
