Penn State To Celebrate Joe Paterno's 50th Anniversary

Penn State will honor former head football coach Joe Paterno during the Nittany Lions' September 17th game against Temple.

The university issued a release saying the September 17th game will mark the 50th anniversary of Paterno's first game as head coach. More specifics on the celebration will be released on the Thursday before the game. Paterno was fired as head coach in 2011 as part of the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

The legendary coach died just a few months later at age 85.

His statue was removed from outside the stadium the following summer.
