SIAC Week 2 Football Honors


Kevin Lacey (Tuskegee) was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Offensive Player of the Week while Javonte’ Kelly of Lane College was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday.

Clark Atlanta’s Kenneth Morgan and Ty Woods were named Newcomer of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week respectively.

Lacey, a 6’6 senior quarterback from Wetumpka, Ala., helped Tuskegee to a 28-18 win over Albany State in the Whitewater Classic on Saturday. He led an offensive attack that piled up 406 yards of total offense, including connecting on 11-of-19 throws for 250 yards. The senior recorded three touchdowns and finished the night with four throws of 25 or more yards, including touchdown passes of 41 yards to Leo Gilbert and 51 yards to Desmond Reece.

Kelly led Lane’s defense in a 10-7 win over Fort Valley State. The 6’0 linebacker from Memphis, Tenn. finished with a game-high 11 tackles. Kelly also returned a fumble for 24 yards in the second half.

Morgan and Woods helped Clark Atlanta to a 20-13 victory against Central State at the Chicago Classic. Morgan, a 6-0 freshman defensive back tallied eight tackles in the win. He also returned an interception for 24 yards in the second quarter. In the third quarter, Morgan stripped the Marauder ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage resulting in another Central State turnover. He also forced a fumble and recorded a pass breakup.

Woods, a 5’10 freshman punter from Montgomery, Ala., denied the Marauder return game with directional punts allowing just two punts to be returned all game for 19 yards. He averaged 43.6 yards per punt with his longest being 52 yards.
