Canelo Too Much For Smith Wins Light Middleweight Title

Last night's match up between Canelo Alvarez and Liam "Beefy" Smith was just as much a laugher as GGG's win over Kell Brook. Around 52,000 fans were on hand at AT&T Stadium on Mexico's Independence weekend to witness Canelo Alvarez knocked out Liam Smith in the ninth round to win the WBO light middleweight championship..

Alvarez dropped Smith on several occasions during the fight including the final shot, a big left hand to the body in the 9th round that ended the fight and brought the hopes of an Alvarez-Golovkin showdown back to the forefront.

A Cinco de Mayo matchup between Canelo and GGG in either Vegas or Dallas would shatter attandance records and maybe even mirror the type of boxing payday that we saw between Pacquiao and Mayweather, I did say maybe...

But you know boxing they'll make us wait at least until September 2017.

Did You Know: Canelo established himself as a ticket seller king. Last night's 51,240 fans in attendance broke AT&T Stadium's previous record of 50,994 for a boxing event established by Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey in 2010.
