MEAC Week 3 Football Honors
NORFOLK, Va., - North Carolina Central quarterback Malcolm Bell was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. South Carolina State linebacker Darius Leonard was named Defensive Player of the Week.
North Carolina Central’s Naiil Ramadan earned Rookie of the Week honors, while teammate Carl Jones received Offensive Lineman of the Week honors. Hampton’s Adam Brown was selected as the Specialist of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Malcolm Bell North Carolina Central QB 6-1, 190, R-Sr. Richmond, Va. Bell recorded four of the of the Eagles’ nine touchdowns in their 65-7 win over St. Augustine’s. He completed 19-of-24 passes (79.2 percent) for 270 yards and three touchdowns. The Richmond, Va. native also rushed for 47 yards, including one touchdown.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Darius Leonard South Carolina State LB 6-3, 220, R-Jr. Lake View, S.C. Leonard recorded a game-high 19 tackles (eight solo), including one for a loss of five yards, against Clemson. He also blocked a field goal in the second quarter.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Naiil Ramadan North Carolina Central QB 6-0, 210, R-Fr. Charlotte, N.C. Ramadan notched two touchdowns and 159 yards of total offense in the win over Saint Augustine’s. He completed 6-of-10 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 15 yards and one touchdown.
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
Carl Jones North Carolina Central C 6-2, 285, R-Sr. Nashville, Tenn. Jones aided the Eagles to 676 yards of total offense which is the second-highest offensive output in NCCU history. He scored a two-yard touchdown run on his first career rush. Jones also helped the offensive line not surrender a single sack in the win over Saint Augustine’s.
SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Adam Brown Hampton K 5-9, 192, Jr. Cincinnati, Ohio
Brown nailed a career-long 51-yard field goal in the fourth quarter during the AT&T Nation’s Football Classic.
