SWAC Week 3 Football Honors


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback Brandon Duncan and linebacker Willie Duncan III, Southern wide receiver Willie Quinn and Prairie View A&M running back Sta'fon McCray have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference for their outstanding performances during action, Sept. 16-18. Offensive Player of the Week Brandon Duncan Arkansas-Pine Bluff Quarterback QB | R-So. | 6-3 | 215 lbs. | Roosevelt, N.Y. It was a career night for the UAPB signal-caller versus defending champion Alcorn State, as the redshirt sophomore lit up the Braves' vaunted secondary to the tune of 505 yards and three scores on 29-of-52 passing. Duncan's numbers helped lift the Golden Lions out of a 14-2 hole en route to a 45-43 triple-overtime upset on the road. Defensive Player of the Week Willie Duncan III Arkansas-Pine Bluff Linebacker LB | Sr. | 6-0 | 220 lbs. | Southfield, Mich. Duncan III was all over the field in Arkansas-Pine Bluff's thrilling triple-overtime upset at Alcorn State, notching 17 stops -- 12 solo -- in the 45-43 Golden Lions win. The output doubled the senior's tackle numbers, as he came into the contest with 17 tackles through two games. Currently, Duncan III leads the league in stops. Special Teams Player of the Week Willie Quinn Southern Wide Receiver/Return Specialist WR/RS | R-Sr. | 5-5 | 145 lbs. | Miami, Fla. Quinn outscored Alabama State 24-6, accounting for five total TDs in Saturday's 64-6 home route in the SWAC opener. Quinn, known for his dynamic, play-making ability, hauled in four receptions for 178 yards and three receiving TDs. He also threw a 30-yard touchdown and returned his 10th kick for a score on a 78-yard punt return, which tied the FCS record for most return touchdowns in a career. Newcomer of the Week Sta'fon McCray Prairie View A&M Running Back RB | R-Jr. | 5-11 | 230 lbs. | Orlando, Fla. McCray had a Saturday to remember against Alabama A&M, running for a career-high 192 yards and two scores on 17 tries in the Panthers' victory over the Bulldogs, scoring from 10 yards and 61 yards out. Prior to this breakout performance, McCray had logged just one tote on the season.
