SIAC Week 4 Football Honors


Quarterback Kevin Lacey (Tuskegee) was selected as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Offensive Player of the Week and safety Edward Kirkland (Benedict) was named Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday.

Kick returner Ladarell Pettway (Tuskegee) earned the Special Teams Player of the Week honor and quarterback Johnathan McCrary (Clark Atlanta) was named Newcomer of the Week.

Lacey, a 6’6 senior from Wetumpka, Ala. contributed to three touchdowns in a 38-7 win over Lane on Saturday. He completed 16-of-24 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns (29 yards to Desmond Reece and 54 yards to Pettway). Lacey also had a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give the Golden Tigers a 14-0 lead. He finished with 279 yards of offense, including 61 yards rushing. Lacey averaged 10.2 yards per carry on Saturday for Tuskegee.

Kirkland finished with five tackles and two interceptions in Benedict’s 28-14 win over Fort Valley State. The 6’0 junior from Columbia, S.C. had a 47-yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 28-7 advantage late in the third quarter.

Pettway finished with 166 all-purpose yards on Saturday, including 102 yards in punt returns. The redshirt freshman from Spanish Fort, Ala., returned one punt 64 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and averaged 25.5 yards per return on the day. He also caught a 54-yard touchdown pass.

McCray, a 6’5 redshirt junior from Decatur, Ga. led Clark Atlanta to a 37-13 win over Ave Maria. He led the Panther offense that tallied 420 yards of total offense by throwing for 282 yards (second best single-game in SIAC this season) while finding eight different receivers in the game. McCrary connected on 18-of-31 passes including a 3-yard and 34-yard touchdown.
