MEAC Week 5 Football Honors


NORFOLK, Va. - North Carolina A&T State running back Tarik Cohen was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. North Carolina Central defensive end Frederick Henry-Ajudua was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Florida A&M’s Hans Supre earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina Central’s Jamaal Symmonett received Offensive Lineman of the Week honors. Julian Blair, of Howard, was selected as the Specialist of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tarik Cohen North Carolina A&T State RB 5-6, 179, Sr. Bunn, N.C.

Cohen finished Thursday night’s win over Hampton with 264 all-purpose yards. He rushed for 256 yards on 26 carries, with three touchdowns. Cohen’s 94-yard run in the 31-9 victory was the longest from scrimmage in school history.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Frederick Henry-Ajudua North Carolina Central DE 6-2, 255, Sr. Durham, N.C.

Henry-Ajudua recorded three sacks for a loss of 19 yards and six tackles total in the 31-14 win over Bethune-Cookman. He helped the NCCU defense hold the Wildcats to 121 yards of total offense, including 13 rushing, in the second half.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Hans Supre Florida A&M RB 5-10, 185, r-Fr. Coral Gables, Fla.

Supre rushed for 93 yards on 15 carries, with one touchdown, in the 19-14 win over Savannah State. His 10-yard touchdown run extended the Rattlers lead in the third quarter and was the go-ahead touchdown.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

Jamaal Symmonett North Carolina Central OL 6-3, 300, r-Sr. Nassau, Bahamas

Symmonett earned a grade of 98-percent on his blocking assignments, including five pancake blocks and no sacks, as North Carolina Central finished with 489 yards of total offense. The Eagles rushed for 194 yards and completed 15 passes, for two touchdowns, in the 31-14 victory over Bethune-Cookman.

SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK

Julian Blair Howard DB 5-10, 185, Sr. Waldorf, Md.

Blair blocked a punt early in the first quarter, which led to a touchdown, in Howard’s 33-28 win over Norfolk State.
