Kaepernick Named Starter Versus Bills

49ers coach Chip Kelly has announced that quarterback Colin Kaepernick will get the starting nod for Sunday's game against the Bills in Buffalo.

Kaepernick hasn't attempted a pass since the preseason, when he created a firestorm of controversy for his refusal to stand for the national anthem as a protest of racial and social injustice. He hasn't started a game since losing the job to Blaine Gabbert in Week 8 of last season, then injuries limited his ability to prepare in the offseason. San Francisco shares the worst record in the NFC at 1-4 as Gabbert has badly struggled, ranking second-to-last in the NFL in passer rating and last in yards per attempt.

Kelly said that rumored discussions over Kaepernick's contract had nothing to do with the change.
