SWAC Week 9 Football Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State quarterback Devante Kincade and wide receiver Chad Williams, Prairie View A&M defensive tackle and Alabama A&M kicker Nick Carden have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference for their outstanding performances during week 10 of the 2016 season. Offensive Player of the Week Chad Williams Grambling State Wide Receiver WR | Sr. | 6-2 | 193 | Baton Rouge, La. Williams put up 236 yards and three scores on eight grabs in Grambling's 70-0 defeat of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The senior's yardage total is the third-most by any FCS player in a single game this season. This is the second weekly honor for Williams, whose 846 yards receiving leads the league by nearly 100, despite him having played two less games than the second-ranked receiver in the SWAC. Defensive Player of the Week James Harper Prairie View A&M Defensive Tackle DT | Jr. | 5-11 | 305 lbs. | Waco, Texas

It was a career day by all accounts for the junior, as Harper had career highs in tackles (eight), sacks (one), and tackles for loss (2.5) in leading the Panthers’ 28-14 win at Jackson State. Behind Harper's efforts, Prairie View was able to hold the Tigers to minus-three total rushing yards in the game. Special Teams Player of the Week Nick Carden Alabama A&M Kicker/Punter K/P | Jr. | 6-3 | 190 lbs. | Huntsville, Ala. The junior specialist from Huntsville went 2-for-3 in field goals (1 blocked), including a 30-yarder as time ran out in the first half, cutting Aalabam State's lead to 14-13 at halftime. On point-after-tries, he was a perfect 3-for-3 in Alabama A&M's 42-41 Magic City Classic win over Alabama State, with his make in overtime the game-winning point for the Bulldogs. Newcomer of the Week Devante Kincade Grambling State Quarterback QB | Jr. | 6-1 | 190 | Dallas, Texas Kincade was a one-man show against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, tossing for 457 yards and six scores through the air. He also rushed six times for 31 yards and threw more touchdowns than incompletions in the game (23-of-26 passing). Kincade, the SWAC's leading passer, is the only quarterback in the league averaging more than 300 yards passing per contest, and his 190.1 pass efficiency rating is the best in FCS.
