After serving six seasons as head football coach, Gary Harrell's tenure with Howard University has ended.
News that Harrell's contract would not be renewed came from an official announcement from Howard President Wayne Frederick.
"We extend our very best wishes and profound thank you to Coach Harrell for his dedication and hard work with the University's football program," said Frederick in the announcement.
Harrell's teams had an overall 26-42 record during his tenure. The Bison's best season was in Harrell's second year when the team went 7-4. This year, Howard finished 2-9 following a season-ending victory over Delaware State.
Frederick also noted that "in the next couple of weeks" the Department of Athletics " will announce a process for selecting the next football coach.
