CAU Defeats Albany State 44-36!


Johnathan McCrary threw for 357 yards and five touchdowns to power Clark Atlanta to a 44-36 Homecoming victory over division foe Albany State on Saturday at Panther Stadium. The win clips a three-game skid and gives CAU (4-4, 3-3 SIAC) its first conference victory over ASU (5-3, 4-1 SIAC) since 2001. The Panthers finished with 445 yards of total offense with 24 first downs including 16 through the air.The Golden Rams tallied 382 yards on offense with 121 rushing yards. McCrary completed passes to nine different receivers connecfting 28-of-46 while finding Rodney Morris for two scores. Morris tallied four receptions for 84 yards. DeAndre Jackson led the Panthers in receiving with six catches for 92 yards and one touchdown. Johnathan Sanders added five receptions for 66 yards and a score with Roger Thomas scoring on a six-yard pass from McCrary. Defensively, the Panthers collected a pair of interceptions in the 4th quarter behind Jaquatin Victrum and Quantavious Singletary. Julian Colvard led the team with five tackles and Breante Glover added a sack. Trailing 29-27 to open the final frame, Carlos Saldana gave CAU the lead (30-29) with a 46-yard field goal.The Panthers then scored touchdowns on back-to-back drives to extend the lead 44-29. Jajuan Lankford posted CAU's only rushing touchdown with McCrary finding Sanders for a 10-yard touchdown to cap the team's scoring on the night. ASU closed the gap, 44-36, after Chancellor Johnson rushed in from one yard out with 2:29 left on the clock. However, a failed onside kick attempt and an interception in the closing minutes was costly clipped the Golden Rams. Johnson completed 13-of-28 for 261 yards with two interceptions to lead ASU's offense. McKinley Habersham rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Mike Green chipped in with four receptions for 104 yards to lead all receivers and Quadrey Simmons tacked on 73 yards from four catches. Emmanuel Brown led the Golden Rams defense with a game high nine tackles.
