Virginia State Remains Perfect With 73-21 Win Vs. Lincoln

To say Trent Cannon had a career day would be putting it lightly.

Posting a career-high 253 rushing yards and three touchdowns on nine carries for an incendiary 28.1 yards per carry would’ve been statement enough.

But the VSU senior running back did more than that.

Cannon also rolled out a fiery 95-yard kick return for a TD. And he also caught the Trojans’ lone passing touchdown from Niko Johnson for 21 yards. His three rushing TDs were all scorchers as he scored on runs of 68, 70 and 75 yards.

All-in-all, Cannon unleashed 389 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns to lead Virginia State to a thundering 73-21 victory over Lincoln in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

A historic season in the making continues for the Trojans, as they are now 7-0 for the first time since 1970. That was also the last time the Trojans scored more than 70 points in a game; on Oct. 24, 1970, VSU blew out Hampton 85-2.

With the loss, Lincoln (PA) dropped to 0-8.
