Aretha Franklin Gets Epic, Star-Studded Funeral
Aretha Franklin was remembered with laughs, tears, and thunderous music, during her funeral at Detroit's Greater Grace Temple yesterday. Civil rights leaders, politicians, music industry icons and her family and friends joined together to speak about the impact the Queen of Soul had on them, their community, and the world. Former President Bill Clinton spoke at the event and admitted that before he and his wife were high powered politicians, they were Aretha Franklin groupies.
The Reverend Al Sharpton read a letter from former President Barack Obama, who said Franklin's voice lifted and empowered the vulnerable during the Civil Rights Movement. Of course, Aretha Franklin was celebrated with music, and there was no shortage of star power at the event. Ariana Grande belted out her version of "Natural Woman." American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino sang "Take My Hand Precious Lord." Stevie Wonder was one of the last acts, and he performed the song "As" from his "Songs in the Key of Life" album
