AAMU Falls To Samford 55-21
HOMEWOOD — Ty Herring changed the game. With Alabama A&M threatening to score a go-ahead touchdown, the Samford safety took a tipped pass 95 yards in the opposite direction. The result: A momentum swing Alabama A&M was not able to overcome. Samford capitalized on a pair of turnovers to create a 21-point swing as the Bulldogs surged past Alabama A&M 55-21 Saturday night in a non-conference football game. Alabama A&M (2-2) travels to Mobile next week to play Central State in the Gulf Coast Challenge at Ladd Peebles Stadium. For Alabama A&M, turnovers and drives that stalled deep in Samford territory were costly. Spencer Corey ran a fake punt 72 yards for a touchdown, and Aqeel Glass threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Burke to give Alabama A&M a 14-10 lead early in the second quarter. But things started to come unraveled right before halftime. Alabama A&M appeared to be on the verge of taking a lead into halftime. Glass completed four straight passes to lead the Bulldogs deep into Samford territory before a pass attempt across the middle of the field was tipped into the air. Herring seized the ball — and the opportunity. When the ball was tipped into the air, the Samford safety nabbed the interception while in full stride, never slowing down until he reached the end zone. Trailing by 20 early in the third quarter, Alabama A&M was on the verge of pulling back into the game when the Bulldogs had a 1st and goal on the opposing 1-yard line. But Alabama A&M was not able to punch the ball into the end zone, turning the ball over on downs. A few plays later, Samford quarterback Chris Oladokun threw an 82-yard touchdown pass to Washington. Oladokun passed for 250 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed for 95 yards and a score. Jordan Bentley led Alabama A&M with 137 rushing yards on 17 carries. Glass passed for 186 yards and two touchdowns, completing 19 of 33 attempts with two interceptions.
