Bethune-Cookman 31, Morgan State 20
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Akevious Williams threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns to Jimmie Robinson as Bethune-Cookman defeated Morgan State 31-20 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday at Municipal Stadium. Robinson finished with five catches for 136 yards and scored on second-half touchdowns of 70, 6 and 44 yards as the Wildcats (4-1 overall, 2-0 MEAC) pulled away from a 10-6 halftime lead. The senior from Palm Coast, Fla, who also scored three touchdowns against Morgan State (0-5, 0-2) in last year’s game, a 30-28 Bethune-Cookman win. The last Wildcat receiver to score three touchdowns in a game was Frank Brown against North Carolina A&T in 2016. Williams also rushed for 114 yards, including a 64-yard second quarter touchdown that gave the Wildcats a 10-3 lead in their home opener.
North Carolina A&T State 58, Norfolk State 19 NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina A&T State scored quickly and often Saturday afternoon at Dick Price Stadium, and the result was a 58-19 blowout of Norfolk State. The Aggies were aided four one-play scoring drives to defeat the Spartans for the sixth straight season. N.C. A&T has 10 scoring drives this season of three plays or less. Six of those drives are one-play drives. That has to be demoralizing for a team,” said N.C. A&T junior running back Jah-Maine Martin. “You believe you have a chance and then boom, one play, and we’re in the end zone.” Martin has been the one most responsible for taking down opponents’ morale. Martin scored three more rushing touchdowns to give him 11 for the season, which is eight shy of breaking Tarik Cohen’s single-season record. Martin also added 199 yards rushing on 10 carries, which means he could lead the nation in rushing and yards per carry by Monday. Two of Martin’s scores came on one-play drives where he ran a long way. His first score of the day, however, was set up first by an interception from junior safety Najee Reams. Carter had three interceptions on the day including one in the red zone. He was also sacked four times.
Florida A&M 28, North Carolina Central 21 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Ryan Stanley moved closer to another record and Xavier Smith registered over 100 yards receiving as the Florida A&M University football team held off North Carolina Central, 28-21, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game during homecoming at Bragg Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Stanley, who came into Saturday’s conference game needing 333 yards to pass Quinn Gray’s all-time career passing mark of 7,378 yards, threw four touchdown passes and threw for 306 yards. Smith caught the final two touchdown passes, including the game winner with 32 seconds left. The Rattlers (4-1 overall, 2-0 MEAC) wasted little time putting points on the board. Florida A&M received the opening kickoff and went 65 yards in just four plays, taking 1:01 off the clock as Stanley connected with David Manigo for 22 yards to give FAMU a quick 7-0 lead with 13:59 remaining in the first quarter. Florida A&M extended the advantage to 14-0 as Stanley found Marcus Williams in the left corner of the endzone with 8:01 left in the first half. The Eagles (2-4, 1-1) cut the deficit to 14-7 with a 12-play, 60-yard drive as Davius Richard scored from 1-yard out with a little less than two minutes remaining in the second.
Harvard 62, Howard 17 Cambridge, Mass. -- Howard University's special team mistakes proved too costly, as the Bison dropped a lopsided loss to the Harvard University Crimson 62-17 Saturday afternoon at the historic Harvard Stadium. Harvard's three-block performance in the first half was a mountain too high for Howard to climb. The Crimson defense also forced two Bison fumbles. The bright spot in the first half was senior wideout Kyle Anthony's four receptions for 118 yards which were a game-high. True freshman quarterback Quinton Williams was under pressure all game; he managed a game-high 224 yards on 13-for-23 passing and a touchdown. He was sacked seven times. Howard was out-gained 455-277 total yards.
South Carolina State 38, Delaware State 24 DOVER, Del. -- Tyrece Nick threw for a career-high five touchdowns as South Carolina State beat Delaware State 38-24 on Saturday night. Nick had 253 yards passing for the Bulldogs (3-1, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). He also led with 105 rushing yards. Nick threw a 37-yard touchdown to Shaquan Davis on the Bulldogs' third play of the game. Dillon Bredesen capped their next drive with a 41-yard field goal and South Carolina State led 10-0 late in the first quarter. Next, Nick connected with De'Montrez Burroughs for a 21-yard score and the Bulldogs were up 17-3 at halftime. Nick opened the second half with a 50-yard touchdown throw to Will Vereen on the first play from scrimmage, stretching it to 24-3. Delaware State made good on a fumble recovery by Christian Johnson deep in Bulldogs territory with a Bryant Dallas scoring run to close to 24-10 with 5:51 left in the third. Tylik Bethea had 198 yards and a score passing for the Hornets (1-4, 0-3). He also ran for a touchdown.
