New Jersey Could Be Next To Join America's "Pot Party"

A New Jersey lawmaker, a Democrat, has introduced legislation to legalize marijuana in the Garden State, despite vocal opposition from Governor Christie. Senator Nicholas Scutari unveiled the bill at a news conference in the state capital Monday afternoon. The bill would make New Jersey one of a growing number of states to legalize the drug. Scutari said the measure would generate 300-million dollars in new tax revenue. Currently, medical marijuana is legal but only for treatment of a small group of ailments. Christie considers marijuana a gateway drug and has repeatedly slammed calls to legalize it as "stupid." Each year, about 20-thousand people are arrested in New Jersey for illegal possession.
